Take your wellness journey up a notch this summer and consider implementing Ayurveda into your summer routine. Ayurveda is an ancient science from India that fosters a holistic approach to well-being and aligns your body and mind with the natural ebb and flow of the season. Here are some simple ways to incorporate Ayurvedic elements and experience a harmonious and joyful summer!
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of holistic healing, offering valuable insights to help us stay balanced and energized during this sizzling season. It emphasizes the use of natural remedies, including herbs, diet, meditation, yoga, and lifestyle practices, to prevent and treat various ailments.
It revolves around the concept of
three primary doshas, which are fundamental energies or principles that govern the body and mind. We all have some of each dosha but there is typically one or two that are prevalent in our being. Doshas can become out of balance and the practice of Ayurveda helps us restore optimal balance. The three doshas are:
Vata Dosha
Governs movement, communication, and nervous system function, associated with air and ether, and tends to be creative and enthusiastic when balanced.
Pitta Dosha
Manages metabolism, digestion, and transformation, aligned with fire and water, and manifests as intelligence and leadership when in harmony.
Kapha Dosha
Controls structure, stability, and lubrication, rooted in earth and water, promoting calmness and endurance when in equilibrium.
Summer Pitta Inbalance
Since we are in the
heat of the summer, we can focus on
Pitta. Pitta is associated with qualities of heat, intensity, and transformation. During the summer, when external temperatures are high and the Pitta energy tends to be over-expressed, focusing on Pitta pacification can help maintain balance and promote well-being.
A simple way you can bring Pitta energy back to balance during the summer is
Relaxation and Stress Management.
Engage in practices that promote relaxation and reduce stress, as high stress levels can exacerbate Pitta imbalances. Try
meditation, gentle yoga, or deep breathing exercises. Spend time in nature and practice mindfulness to calm the mind and soothe Pitta's intensity.
